Dear Son,
There’s so much I want to shield you from. There are mistake I know you’ll make, and mistake I know I’ll need to let you make. I wish I could tell you that there is nothing to fear, but I cannot. However, there are a few things that I am certain you will never have to fear…
1. I love your father. You will never need to worry what would happen, or play through the scenarios if we were to divorce. It’s a word never mentioned and we don’t plan on starting to ever. I pray we can teach you just a little bit more about God through our hell-or-high-water marriage. So, if in 15 years, he decides to leave the table, or not contribute, I will be here to love him just as I always have. He is worth loving. I married your father purely for what I could give him. What I brought to the table, and everything I get back is a beautiful added bonus.
2. And that leads me to the next thing you will never have to fear…God’s love. God cares for you. I would love to go on about birth and eggs, how you were planned, but, well, mentioning more may lead to questions and I am NOT ready for that! God loves you. Plain and simple. I hope that NEVER turns into a cliche for your little ears. I hope you ALWAYS expect to hear it in this house.
3. Lastly, you do not have to fear that I will force you into my definition of a man. I am looking forward to seeing all of your bents and traits, and how you were created, not how I perceive you. What do you mean, mom? I mean, a man does not need to grow a 6″ beard, or cut down a forrest. Likewise, a man does not need to be ok with the color pink (or hate it). You are a {little}man. Nothing can change that! And I don’t plan on trying. I will, however, teach you how men should treat others. You are a man by sex and by nature, but there will come a time when you will have to choose to be a Man. To grow up, maybe before you are even ready. I will be here, {little}man. If you fail, I’m here. If you get lost, I am here. You will always be my {little}man, just as I will always be your mum.
I love you dearly,
Mum
