{A letter to my son, Britain}
B,
Time stands for no one and I can hardly believe that we are coming upon your 19 month birthday. It seems like just yesterday dad was crying with perfect joy, “It’s a boy!” Since this is my first letter to you, which will be a part of a monthly series, I thought it best to cover some of the past.
I knew from the very beginning I was carrying a little man. I didn’t need an ultrasound to tell me that. In fact, you were so active that I lovingly referred to you as “monster” and joked about how horrible I would feel if you turned out to be a girl. Mother’s intuition, my worry didn’t go very far. You were are boy.
We did, in fact, choose to not find out. It was a very easy decision and well worth it, as I said, to hear your dad proudly introduce you to the room. He would sheepishly tell everyone he thought you were a girl when I was pregnant, but I could tell it was because he wanted a son so bad, that pretending you could be a girl was his way of not getting his hopes up. Oh, when you arrived, though, his eyes beamed of fulfillment.
Proudest. Dad. Ever.
You are today and have been every day, a bundle of joy. I have no fears of bringing you to the grocery store, or keeping you up past your bedtime. You are always on. (Some days I do wonder how to turn you off….for naps, for instance.) You have a vocabulary that far exceeds your age and I boast you’re a genius. Typical mom??
You entertain the crowds with your animal noises. Tiger, elephant, owl, sheep, fish. Once, in nursery at church, the worker had you sound asleep by singing a lullaby (the exact one escapes my mind). In this lullaby she said “sheep” and out of a deep sleep, you perked up and said “baaaaa!”
My dear son, you are my joy. My treasure and my heart. I do pray that God cements your tender, loving spirit.

What a wonderful surprise to wait to find out the gender! I bet dad was just beaming! Love your image, what a cool slide, and he looks so happy and excited!
Such a cutie! I think my son was born without an “off” switch too!
Oh, what a sweetie! My youngest is about the same age and its so much fun! I’m so glad you’ve joined our circle! Cant wait to follow you through the months:)
What a wonderful idea! I may have to do some letters to my son so I can remember everything along with the pictures I take of him.
